The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette polled sportswriters to get an indication of who they will select to receive the Heisman Trophy:
If a nationwide poll of sportswriters conducted by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is any indication, this year’s Heisman Trophy vote will be one of the closest in history.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow held a slender 220-206 lead over Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden in a sampling of 104 responses compiled over two days by the Democrat-Gazette. The votes were gathered from a crosssection of writers and weren’t exclusively from Heisman Trophy voters.
The actual Heisman vote, which includes more than 900 voters, is due Wednesday. The presentation ceremony will be Dec. 8 in New York.
The Democrat-Gazette’s straw poll was broken down into five sections of the country, plus a sixth group consisting of national college football writers.
